Sophia Hollander of The Wall Street Journal broke the hotly anticipated news about what is going on with kindergarten testing since ISAAGNY announced last fall that they wanted to get rid of the ERB:  Decision Fragments New York City’s Private-School Process

To sum up:  The group’s members can’t make up their minds.  While the group studied multiple ERB replacements, apparently they couldn’t come to a consensus.  Each NYC private school is going to announce their own admissions requirement.

What this means for parents:

  • Horace Mann will definitely require the ERB, and other schools may make the test optional.
  • Schools which don’t require the ERB will require children to perform more tasks at their interviews.

My takeaway is that ambitious parents will continue to prep their children.  In fact, with more uncertainty about assessment, parents will prep them more.  Sorry, four year olds.
