Speyer Legacy School, the private school located on Manhattan’s West Side that aims to educate the gifted, sent Abacus Mom the following announcement:

The Board of Trustees of The Speyer Legacy School is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Richard F. Barter as interim Head of School. Dr. Barter has been a stalwart supporter of Speyer and its mission from the outset, and has served as a Trustee of the School since 2010. He stepped down from the Board to take up this appointment as of February 1, 2014. The position of Head of School was previously held by Randy Collins, who, in consultation with the Board, agreed to step down in December to address pressing and unexpected personal matters.

Dr. Barter was the Headmaster at Collegiate School for nearly 20 years, and he led the transformation of the school into one of the most renowned independent schools in the country. He also served as an interim Head of School for the Berkeley Carroll School in Brooklyn and led BCS through a time of rapid and positive transformation.
