The improvement of Manhattan private schools’ offerings and facilities continues apace! Just like the colleges, but with no pushback against rising tuition!
Avenues raised the stakes with their snazzy new building, Collegiate is constructing one, Speyer Legacy is updating a hospital, Spence and Sacred Heart are building new athletic facilities and now the Dwight School is acquiring an athletic complex in East Harlem.
From Kim Velsey in the New York Observer: On the Playing Fields of Dwight: School Scores New Athletic Complex
Dwight can use some rebranding, and being known as the Manhattan sports school, would be helpful. Stephen Spahn, Dwight’s head, noted:
“In Manhattan, there certainly aren’t going to be many schools that have better facilities. Only five others have swimming pools; just two have tennis courts.”
Dwight plans to build some squash courts–good thinking.
