How old should my child be when she takes the ERB to get into private school kindergarten?

The ERB, also known as the ECAA or WPPSI, is the test required by Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Riverdale private schools for admission into kindergarten, 1st grade, and in many cases, pre-kindergarten.

To apply to kindergarten, children have to be four or older when they take the ERB.  To apply to pre-K, kids take the ERB when they are three.

Since children are scored against their peers on a fixed curve, it’s best to take the test when you’re at your oldest within a three-month quartile (ie better the day before your quarter birthday than the day after).

A lot of strategizing for very little people…
