Jennifer Levitz of The Wall Street Journal reports The New Gift-Givers: Grandparents / Schools Increasingly Target Baby Boomers for Donations
Levitz reports:
In the 2012-13 school year, 13% of grandparents who were solicited made annual gifts, while a decade ago, grandparents were hardly on schools’ radar, according to surveys of members of the National Association of Independent Schools, which represents 1,400 U.S. private schools.
While the majority of my Manhattan, Brooklyn, Riverdale and Westchester clients pay for their children’s private schools on their own, some number of them do ask their parents for help.
Some private school students come from families with generations of wealth who are used to helping not only their own children and grandchildren but also less fortunate families through contributing to educational causes in the United States and abroad.
