Thanks to Andover’s Jane Foley Fried for a truly helpful, insightful article about how all of us can better cope with life’s challenges and disappointments, including thin envelopes from the private schools of our choice.
Fried makes the point that when one door shuts, another opens, which I think is inspiring advice in all situations.
In thirteen years of practice, I am sorry to say I have never read such a wise article coming from a private school admissions office. Fried’s message is so straight-forward and modest–a rejection from Andover has nothing to do with a student’s inherent worth or potential–that it makes Andover the institution shine more brightly than ever.
Fascinatingly Fried is coming to Brearley as the new head of school. Judging from her writing, I’m impressed with the choice.
